What I Do

I edit and proofread text of all kinds: books, poetry, newsletters, reports, proposals, grant applications, journals, websites, training materials, essays, marketing materials and more. I do this in a wide range of formats including Word, PDF, hard copy using BSI proofreading symbols, sometimes even using phone photos of page proofs.

Clients include large arts organisations, publishers, community groups, small businesses, letterpress printers, churches, training organisations and individuals.

The work I do ranges from a quick proofread to check for errors and typos, to a full structural edit and anything in between. Many clients opt for what is sometimes called a ‘proofedit’, which will tidy up your prose and offer suggestions for improvement as well as spotting and correcting any errors in the text and layout.

I’m also an experienced writer and researcher, able to create and manage content and offer marketing assistance, so give me a shout if you need support in these areas, too.

Respecting Your Voice

A good editor never imposes their voice on a client’s work. I’ll cast a friendly eye over your work and make sure your text sparkles, your voice is heard loud and clear, and your readers aren’t distracted by errors or mistakes.

Pricing

All projects are different and the time taken will vary depending on the level of intervention you require. A straightforward proofread will be quicker and will cost you less than a full structural edit or re-write. My hourly rate is currently between £20-£35* depending on the work involved.

Feel free to get in touch using the contact form and let me know what you are looking for. If you’re not sure, that’s fine too - we can have a chat and see how I can help. Once I’ve got the measure of the project, I’ll give you a no-obligation quote for the work and we can move forward from there.

* My hourly rates are in line with the guidelines set out by the Chartered Institute for Editors and Proofreaders.
